02/02/09 – Lying in the grass (plus some pictures)

Today’s workout is a little hard to explain, but it was pretty simple once I got out there and started doing it.

Basically I was on an oval (do you guys have ovals in America? It’s a bit like a baseball ground… only it’s more… ovalish) doing laps straight up the middle with a medicine ball (10kg/22lbs) – which works out to 100 meters (110 yards).

The first 100m looks like this:

  • 2-handed throw overhead
  • sprint to the ball, then 10 x clapping pushups
  • 2-handed throw from between the legs
  • sprint to the ball, then 10 x situps with medicine ball
  • Turn around, then 2-handed throw backwards over head
  • sprint to the ball, then 10 x jumping jacks/star jumps

Then the next 3 x 100m looks like this (sprinting to the ball of course):

  • 2-handed throw overhead
  • 2-handed throw from between the legs
  • Turn around, then 2-handed throw backwards over head

So that combined to a single 400m set, which I did 3 of. The catch is I can fit 3 of each throws in to 100m, which meant 30 clapping pushups, 30 situps @ 10kg and 30 jumping jacks (no biggie there) for each set – which works out to 90 reps for each.

I’m hoping to eventually work up to doing the pushups, situps and starjumps on every lap, but I think it might be a while till I get there!

Anyway, it’s been two weeks but here’s some pictures:

20/1/09 – Uhhhhhh (And progress pics)

I know, I know, it’s been two days since my last post. And I’ll be honest, I haven’t done any workouts at all :(

I have found that when ever I try and trim down and get rid of that last little bit of fat (this is about the 5th time or there abouts) I always get to a point and go “Eh, good enough” and go eat some s**tty food. So I’d appreciate if you bear with me for a moment while I try and talk this feeling away and get back to some hardcore training. Or you can skip to the bottom and take a peak at this weeks progress pictures.

Ok so, I’m not really sure why this happens. In my teenage years I was always very fit, but never really “lean”, mostly because I was too busy enjoying bottles of coke and strawberry donuts :D Perhaps my troubles stem from wanting to believe my body and activity level is still up to the standard of those years. Or perhaps it’s because in those times I just went along to my taekwondo classes every night without having to make a concious “I’m going to work out” decision. Maybe my body remembers being at this point, and decides it will fall back in to the old routine it was used to?

Regardless, I don’t want to give up and waste 3 weeks (has it only been 3?!) of extremely hard work. The good news is that my diet is still exactly spot on – yesterday and Monday I didn’t eat a single thing I shouldn’t have, and was rewarded as a result, so I’m still in a good place to convince myself to get back to my kettlebell and get on with it.

Is there anyone else out there with a similar problem? I’d love to hear about it if there is! Especially if there’s someone that’s worked through it…

Oh, and I’d like to just say that having this blog has actually helped me to work through quite a few stumbling blocks that would normally have tripped me up, just by talking through my problems. I don’t really care if anyone reads them (although I’m happy some people do!), it just helps to put my thoughts down and actually sort through the reasons for some of the cravings etc. If anyone reading this is struggling with weight loss or something similar, I highly recommend a blog or something similar!

Ok, so on to the pictures. I’m really happy this week, definition is coming in nicely and to be honest, I thought it would take a good 2 or 3 weeks longer to get to this point.

13/1/09 – Medicine ball fun and progress snaps

Filed under: Fitness, Personal, Photo Log, Training, Workouts — Tags: , , , , — ladlam @ 7:51 pm

Seeing as I didn’t get a workout in yesterday, today was medicine ball day!

  • Medicine ball throws – 200m x 6

I had heaps more energy today, so my diet tweeks for the day did the trick. I also got some martial arts practice in at lunch.

More importantly, progress pics are below! Taking the pictures this week made me feel pretty good. I was feeling a bit like I wasn’t making any progress, but comparing the shots with week 1 and 2 there’s some pretty good progress starting to show. All that hard works paying off!

1/6/2009 – Progress Snaps!

Well it was a lovely 41 degrees when I got home today (that’s celsius… 105.8 degrees Fahrenheit) but being a gluton for punishment I hunkered down in the garage and did the following:

  • KB Clean + Press – (1 – 2 – 3) x 3 (ladders)
  • KB Jerk – (1 – 2 – 3) x 3 ( ladders)
  • 12 minute “man maker” KB swings – 30 + 30 + 20 + 20 + 20 = 110 swings! :D

That was enough to take me to 30 minutes and leave me pretty rooted!

In more important news, progress pictures as promised! I’m very happy with the work I’ve done in week 1, and I’m looking forward to the progress week 2 holds!

Everything was a bit sore today, so I just went for a 5km run. After the first few minutes the run felt pretty good. Some big hills on the route I go and I powered through them all.

After the run I took a few snaps. I’ll try and take them once a week on Monday, for consistency.
